Innovation and Safety in Food Packaging for Allergies and Intolerances
For LifeNichel, innovation means simplifying the daily life of those living with complex allergies and multiple intolerances. Every aspect of the product, from ingredients to packaging, is selected to offer safety, convenience, and taste. Packaging, in particular, plays a strategic role in communicating the brand’s mission and ensuring perceived reliability.
Meet LifeNichel
« The first Italian brand specializing in food preparations for nickel allergies and complex diets »
Founded in Italy in 2021, LifeNichel was created to meet the needs of a category often overlooked by the market: people suffering from nickel allergy who follow particularly restrictive dietary regimes. The project stems from the direct experience of Paola Orsini, author of the book Nickel Allergy, Eat Healthy and Varied, supported by Mirko D’Isidoro, expert in web marketing and naturopathy, and chef Massimo Cicalè, with over 35 years of experience in the industry.
LifeNichel is the first Italian e-commerce dedicated to safe and balanced food solutions, formulated without gluten, lactose, casein, yeast, and added sugars, and with an extremely low nickel content. Each preparation is designed to guarantee safety, taste, and practicality for those managing multiple intolerances or following hypoallergenic diets, simplifying their daily kitchen routine.
🎯 The challenge
Food packaging that communicates reliability, convenience, and respect for the most sensitive needs
For LifeNichel, packaging represents much more than a simple container: it is a fundamental element of the brand’s promise of quality and safety. The priority was to choose materials compliant with food contact standards, characterized by an extremely low nickel content, essential to protect a particularly sensitive audience.
At the same time, adopting a practical size and creating an intuitive design was crucial. Each pack had to be highly customizable to ensure clear and immediate communication on ingredients, benefits, and usage instructions, through effective and easy-to-understand graphics.
Given the variety of the offer, managing multiple graphic references without increasing production costs was essential. Finally, LifeNichel sought a partner capable of supporting the project’s growth, offering a balanced solution between quality, production flexibility, and economic sustainability.
✅ The results
Customized flexible packaging for an inclusive and safe food line
In collaboration with Flexie, LifeNichel chose the 18x21x8 cm stand up pouch, made in matte PP MAT / PE EVOH PE BL material, perfectly suitable for food contact and with a high protective barrier. Thanks to multi-subject digital printing, seven different graphics were produced in a single order, ensuring strong customization for each SKU.
The pack design was optimized for easy understanding: simple illustrations, clear instructions, and representation of the final product. Finally, the materials underwent laboratory testing by the client, confirming compatibility with the minimum nickel content standards required by the brand.
🏆 The bonus benefit
